PEMBERTON TOWNSHIP, New Jersey — A school bus carrying numerous school children hit low-hanging electrical wires in a freak accident recently. The sudden collision with the wires caused three children on board the bus to sustain injuries, according to WPIX 11. The crash happened last Tuesday around 9:00 a.m. in the small community of Pemberton Township, located in the southern part of New Jersey. Law enforcement officers, as well as fire and rescue, arrived at the scene and found three children injured. The injured children complained of neck pain and were taken to the hospital. The first responders refused to name the children because of their ages, and they would not name the school the children attended.
Law enforcement officers did not say why the accident happened. However, the officers are still trying to figure out why the school bus driver, who is a 42-year-old woman, hit the electrical wires hanging down from the poles. The police refrained from saying whether the bus driver took a different route than usual when she hit the wires. The police did not indicate if the wires were damaged before the bus hit them, which might account for the lower hang, or the bus driver knew the wires were handing low and misjudged the bus’s height clearance.
Fortunately, none of the children were electrocuted by the live wires. The sudden stop could have accounted for the neck injuries to the children. Police did not indicate how many children were riding the bus at the time of the accident.
The school bus operator did not sustain any injuries in the crash. Police continue to investigate. The police did not charge the school bus driver at the scene of the crash. There was no update available concerning the health status of the three injured children. The police did not give a timeframe for the completion of their report.
