Verrazzano narrows bridge
STATEN ISLAND, NY – August 3, 2020 – According to an online news article posted on SILive.com, several people were seriously injured in a motor vehicle accident on August 1, 2020. The multi-vehicle accident occurred around at 3:34 p.m. on Saturday, according to the Fire Department (FDNY). The motor vehicle accident occurred on the top level of the Verrazzano-Narrows Bridge, according to a spokesperson for the FDNY.
The accident resulted in five people sustaining injuries, and four of the injured were treated at the accident scene. One injury victim was taken to Staten Island University Hospital in Ocean Breeze, New York, according to an FDNY spokesperson. The accident closed down the upper level of the Verrazzano-Narrows Bridge, which caused significant delays for other motorists.
According to a Notify NYC alert, the Brooklyn-bound traffic was significantly delayed on the bridge, and motorists were advised to take alternate routes, to give themselves extra time to get where they need to go. All lanes on the Verrazzano-Narrows Bridge were reopened approximately 2 hours later, according to a spokesperson from the NYPD.
