Fatal Pedestrian Accident With an 18-Wheeler Tractor-Trailer Truck on I-287 in Greenburgh, Westchester County, New York

GREENBURGH, NEW YORK – August 30, 2020 – According to a press release on The New York State Police Newsroom, the New York State Police are investigating a tragic, fatal pedestrian accident involving an 18-wheeler tractor-trailer truck. The pedestrian accident occurred along I-287 in the town of Greenburgh, Westchester County, New York. The collision occurred at about 4:12 in the morning.
According to the New York State Police’s news report, a call reporting that a pedestrian hit by a tractor-trailer truck was received, and State Police were dispatched to the accident scene located on I-287 eastbound.
As the New York State Police began their initial investigation at the fatal pedestrian accident scene, the officers interviewed the driver of a Kenworth tractor-trailer truck who allegedly struck the pedestrian who was walking along the side of the interstate. The 55-year-old truck driver from Homosassa, Florida, stated that he was driving eastbound on in the right lane along Interstate-287. The truck driver stated that at approximately mile marker 2.5, he saw a pedestrian in the road, and he could not avoid hitting the pedestrian. The truck driver stated that he hit the pedestrian. The New York State Police officer at the scene stated that the truck driver did not appear to be injured or under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
The victim, a 20-year-old female from White Plains, New York, was killed due to the personal injuries she sustained in the truck-pedestrian accident. She was accompanied by a 37-year-old man from Newark, New York. The man from Newark, New York, was fortunately uninjured in the incident. The victim was tragically pronounced deceased at the pedestrian accident scene by the Westchester County Medical Examiner.
The New York State Police Troop K Collision Reconstruction Unit (CRU) performed a pedestrian-semi truck collision accident reconstruction. The fatal accident is currently under investigation.
