
Hit by a drunken driver
According to an online news report on nydailynews.com, a New York City woman was struck and nearly killed in a pedestrian accident allegedly caused by a drunk driver. The woman is on a ventilator at the hospital, and she is fighting for her life. The scene of the accident scene was near 110th Street on Northern Boulevard.
The news article states that the man allegedly was caught in possession of an open container of beer, and the suspect was speeding prior to the pedestrian collision. The suspect was freed without bail, and he has been ordered not to drive anywhere in New York state.
After the accident on Wednesday, the driver stated to law enforcement that he consumed three beers, and he was driving without a license. The man was operating a Honda sedan when he struck the rear-end of an SUV pinning the woman in between his car and a parked SUV.
The victim, a 35-year-old woman, founded a charity to feed people who have the coronavirus. She was in the process of delivering food for her charity called Brigada de Esperanza NY. She started the charity to set a good example for her children. The victim´s three children currently reside in her native country of Ecuador. The victim recently lost her job as a saleswoman for Avon due to the pandemic. According to the news report, the driver of the Honda lost control of his vehicle and hit her. She is the mother of three children. The victim was transported to Elmhurst Hospital Center, and she remains in critical condition.
Police accident investigators stated that the driver was three times the legal limit of alcohol. After the accident, an open container of Coors Light was found in the suspect´s SUV cup holder. The driver of the Honda was recently arraignment in Queens Criminal Court. The Criminal Justice Court Judge stated that she was not able to keep the driver in prison due to bail reforms that went into effect this year. The suspect is charged with driving while intoxicated and vehicular assault charges.
