NASSAU COUNTY, NY- Patch.com reports that a 71-year-old male pedestrian was hit by a vehicle on Friday, September 28, 2018, in Great Neck Plaza. Reports indicate that at the time of the accident, the man was attempting to cross Middle Neck Road.
The victim was hit at about 7:15 p.m. by a 2007 Lincoln that was driving south. The man was transported to a local medical center for treatment of serious injuries.
The police do not suspect that any criminal activity was involved in the incident, but the investigation is still underway.
The issue of pedestrian safety in the Great Neck area is highlighted by the 5K race that is scheduled for Sunday, October 7, 2018. The race is held in remembrance of Oren Bennaeim, a Great Neck resident who was killed by a reckless driver about two years ago.

Fortunately, the efforts to curb pedestrian fatalities have shown success. In 2017, New York City reported its lowest number of pedestrian fatalities ever. The progress is a strong indicator that the safety initiative can be successful in preventing fatal crashes.
