Approximately 2,900 vehicles of the model-year 2018 Chevrolet Equinox, 2018 GMC Terrain SUVs, and 2017-1018 GMC Acadia SUVs have been recalled, according to the Daily Hornet. The problem is that the right front intermediate driveshaft may fracture. If the driveshaft breaks off or separates while driving, it will make the vehicle suddenly lose propulsion, which increases the danger of a crash. According to the recall notice, the problem also poses a “rollaway” hazard if it occurs when the vehicle is parked on a hill without the parking brake engaged.
Dealerships will replace the right front immediate drive shaft assembly at no cost. As of August 30, no accidents or injuries have been linked to the recall, reports the Daily Hornet.
Previous Chevrolet Recalls
On August 4, 2016, Chevrolet recalled 367,808 Chevrolet Equinox. GM recalled certain model year 2013 Chevrolet Equinox and GMC terrain vehicles. Takata engineers initially noticed problems with the chemical mix used in its airbags more than ten years ago, according to CNN. The defect involves aspirin-sized ammonium nitrate tablets that are placed in a metal canister inside the airbag. The nitrate tablets are made to produce a gas that inflates the bag.
Approximately 42 million vehicles are potentially affected in the United States and at least seven million have been recalled worldwide. The defective airbags have been linked to 11 deaths and approximately 180 injuries in the U.S.
Chevrolet Equinox 2018 Information
With the 2018 Chevrolet Equinox, General Motors has brought to market a competitive compact crossover SUV. Smaller than its predecessor, the new Equinox is similar in size to rivals such as the Honda CR-V, Toyota RAV4, and Mazda CX-5, with a roomy, comfortable interior. Standard is a 1.5-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder that is easily competitive with the rest of the competition. Later in the year, Chevrolet planned to debut two new engines: a high-performance 2.0-liter turbo and a 1.6-liter diesel with highway fuel economy projected to be up to 40 mpg.
On the technical side, there is standard Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and available active safety features like lane-keeping assist and an around-view camera. For those who want a compact crossover SUV, the Equinox may be a good choice. However, for highest technological safety features at the lowest possible price, the 2018 Equinox saves its active safety features for the top-line Premier model. In addition, some vehicle owners may miss the availability of active cruise control.
