Barrels Of Valero Propane Recalled. The Valero Marketing & Supply Company has just issued a recall of approximately 919,000 barrels of propane LP gas. According to Consumer Affairs, the announcement was issued by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) and Valero.
Valero Marketing & Supply Company of San Antonio, Texas, initiated the recall because a so-called odorant that is typically added to propane—the odorant is added to help alert consumers of a potential propane gas leak—might not have been added at the recommended level. If this is the case, a propane leak might not be detected, or might be difficult to detect. Failure to detect leaking gas can present a fire, explosion, or thermal burn hazard to consumers.
Valero discovered that a problem occurred with the odorant injection at two of its refineries—Premcor Memphis and Wilmington, California refineries—but said the propane is fit for use, but for the exception of the odorant level issue. The recall includes propane that may have been purchased from the retailers listed below, by state:
