In another series of <"https://www.yourlawyer.com/practice_areas/product_liability">recalls, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) just announced the recall of bicycles, vanity stools, and toy xylophones.
Importer Giant Bicycle, of Newbury Park, California has recalled about 1,000 bicycles because the bicycle fork can break, causing the rider to fall. The recall involves model year 2009 TCR Advanced SL and SL (ISP) Bicycles and Frames, which were made in Taiwan and sold by authorized Giant Bicycle dealers nationwide from August 2008 through December 2008 for between $3,300 and $7,500. It seems that the density of the steerer tubes can cause the forks to crack and break. Giant Bicycle has received one report of the fork cracking. The recall involves 2009 TCR Advanced SL Team, SL 0, SL 1, SL 2, and SL (ISP) model bicycles and frames in silver, charcoal, blue, and red; the words “Giant†and “TCR Advanced SL†are printed on the frame. Steerer tubes with “B,†“N,†or “P†at the end of the serial number are not included in this recall, nor are other “TCR†model bicycles. The CPSC is advising consumers to immediately stop riding these bicycles and contact an authorized Giant Bicycle dealer for a free inspection and replacement fork. Giant Bicycle can be reached toll-free at (866) 458-2555 between 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. PT Monday through Friday, or at the firm’s Website at www.giant-bicycles.com.
Distributor Cheyenne Industries Inc., of Little Rock, Arkansas is recalling about 89,000 Milan Vanity Stools due to a fall hazard because the recalled stools—which were made in China—can become unstable due to loose screws, which can cause the stool legs to separate or break. Cheyenne has received nine reports of incidents, including seven resulting in minor injuries from the stool legs separating or breaking. The CPSC said the recall involves the Milan Vanity Stool Model GBS57A, which are rectangular benches sitting about 18 inches off the ground, with fabric-covered seat cushions, and metal frames. UPC Code 0-50276-85472-2 is printed on the identification tag on the underside of the seat cushion. The recalled stools were sold at Bed Bath & Beyond and other retailers nationwide from October 2004 through March 2006 for about $60. Only stools using four screws to hold the stool legs to a foot ring are impacted by this recall. The CPSC is advising consumers to immediately check the screws on their stools; if the screws are stripped or cannot be tightened, or if a stool leg has broken, consumers should stop using it and contact Cheyenne Industries for a free repair kit; consumers should not return the stools to the store where purchased. Cheyenne Industries can be reached toll-free at (800) 737-5267 between 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. CT Monday through Friday or at the firm’s Website at www.cheyennehomefurnishings.com.
Distributor The Land of Nod from Northbrook, Illinois is recalling about 500 Rolling Toy Xylophones—which were made in China—due to a choking hazard because the pegs on the xylophone can break. The Land of Nod has received 22 reports of broken pegs. The recalled Land of Nod Rolling Toy Xylophones are made of metal, wood, and plastic and have four wheels and a string to pull the toy. The xylophone has eight metal bars, each of which is attached with two pegs; the name “Janod†is printed on each side between the wheels, and on the back wheels. The recalled Rolling Toy Xylophones were sold from The Land of Nod catalogue, its Website www.landofnod.com, and retail stores nationwide from October 2007 through March 2008 for about $45. The CPSC is advising consumers to immediately take the recalled Rolling Toy Xylophone away from children and return it to the company for a credit of the purchase price and a $10 gift card. The Land of Nod can be reached toll-free at (800) 933-9904 between 8:30 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. CT Monday through Friday, at its Website at www.landofnod.com, or through email at [email protected].
