The food company 502 Boundary Blvd. Inc., formerly known as Fletcher’s Fine Foods Ltd., has recalled approximately 8,700 pounds of ham products that may be contaminated with foreign matter, specifically rubber.
The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) announced the recall on September 21, 2016. The products were produced and packed by Sofina Foods of London, Ontario. The products were exported to the United States on July 21, 2016 and were only distributed to the United States.
The boneless, ready-to-eat hams were produced on July 18, 2016. The products subject to recall are 6.02-lb. vacuum-sealed packages containing one Fletcher’s Fine Foods CLASSICS Black Forest Brand Ham with Natural Juices. The recalled hams say Product of Canada on the label and carry the designation Est. #337. The ready-to-eat ham products bear packaging code 16 OC 2016. These hams were shipped to Costco and Sam’s Club establishments and distribution centers in Alaska, Utah, and Washington, according to the FSIS news release.
This is a Class II recall, a situation where there is a remote probability of adverse health consequences from the use of the product.
A consumer reported having found various sized pieces of what appeared to be rubber material embedded in the ham. There have been no confirmed reports of injuries or illnesses due to consumption of these products. FSIS advises anyone concerned about an injury or illness to contact a health care provider.
FSIS urges consumers not to eat the recalled ham. The products should be thrown away or returned to the place of purchase.
