Circle City Marketing and Distributing, doing business as (DBA) Candy Dynamics, of Indianapolis, Indiana, just issued a voluntary recall of Toxic Waste® Short Circuits™ Bubble Gum, over <"https://www.yourlawyer.com/practice_areas/toxic_substances">elevated lead levels, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) just announced.
The toxic gum, which is imported from Pakistan is packaged in a 3.2 oz (90 g) size and is from Lot #15070SC12.
A recent test performed by the FDA indicated that Lot #15070SC12 of the 3.2 oz. (90 g) size of the recalled product contains high levels of lead at 0.189 parts per million (ppm), well above the FDA tolerance of 0.1 ppm. The recalled lot was distributed from January 4, 2011 through March 18, 2011.
The product is identified as: Toxic Waste® Short Circuitsâ„¢ Bubble Gum, (UPC 0 89894 31001 3), 3.2 oz (90 g) size, Lot #15070SC12 (the Lot # is located along the left side of the bag).

No other “Toxic Waste®” brand product or “Short Circuitsâ„¢ Bubble Gum” is affected by this recall.
Symptoms of Lead Poisoning are not always immediately evident and are often difficult to identify. Exposure to lead in children and unborn children can lead to brain and nervous system damage, behavioral and learning problems, slowed growth, hearing problems, headaches, mental and physical retardation, and behavioral and other health problems. Of particular concern is the developing brain because negative influences can have long-lasting effects and can continue well into puberty and beyond. Once poisoned, no organ system is immune.
Lead is also known to cause cancer and reproductive harm and, in adults, can damage the nervous system. Children with lead poisoning may experience irritability, sleeplessness or excess lethargy, poor appetite, headaches, abdominal pain with or without vomiting—generally without diarrhea—and constipation, and changes in activity level. A child with lead toxicity can be iron deficient and pale because of anemia and can be either hyperactive or lethargic. Lead exposure and poisoning can show up dentally, for instance, lead lines on gingival tissue.
In adults there may be motor problems and an increase in depressive disorders, aggressive behavior, and other maladaptive affective disorders as well as problems with sexual performance, impotence and infertility, and sleep disorders; they may be over-sleeping or have difficulty falling asleep.
No illnesses have been reported, to date, in connection with this problem; however, the effects of lead poisoning can take time to become apparent.
The recalled Short Circuits™ Bubble Gum product was distributed nationwide in retail stores and through mail order. The product was also distributed in limited quantities into Canada and Switzerland. The company will continue to sell Short Circuits™ Bubble Gum products in the U.S. Candy Dynamics is sending recall notices to its direct customers.
