A large recall of Toulouse-LapTrec Magnetic Sketchboards has been initiated, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) and Health Canada (HC) just announced.
About 95,000 Toulouse-LapTrec Magnetic Sketchboards have been recalled in the United States; another 4,300 were recalled in Canada.
The Toulouse-LapTrec Magnetic Sketchboards were manufactured in China by Rainbow Force Plastic Products, of China; were imported by Battat Inc., of Plattsburgh, New York; and were sold at Target stores, nationwide, and by various online retailers from March 2010 to March 2011. The defective Toulouse-LapTrec Magnetic Sketchboards retailed for about $16.
The magnetic tip of the drawing pen can dislodge from the pen, posing a choking hazard to children. To date, Battat has received 19 reports of the magnetic tip separating from the pen. No injuries have been reported.
This recall involves the Toulouse-LapTrec Magnetic Sketchboard, which has a white plastic writing surface that is bordered by either a red or a brown plastic frame. The defective Sketchboard also has a bean bag-type backing.
The sketch board is also embellished with four animal shapes across the top: A rabbit, a dog, a cat, and a duck. The multi-colored magnetic pen is affixed to the front of the sketchpad and the model number BX1026 (for the red-framed sketchboard) or BX1027 (for the brown-framed sketchboard) can be found on a paper wrapper that comes with the product at the time of purchase.
The firm advises consumers to immediately take recalled Toulouse-LapTrec Magnetic Sketchboards away from children and to contact Battat to receive a free replacement sketchboard.
