The 800 Hyland Bicycles and Carbon Bicycle Forks were manufactured in Taiwan and imported by Civia Cycles, of Bloomington, Minnesota.
The bicycle fork can crack or break, posing a fall hazard to the consumer. To date, Civia Cycles has received two reports of forks cracking and one report of a fork breaking, resulting in an abrasion on the rider’s face as well as bruised ribs.
This recall involves all Civia Hyland bicycles sold with original equipment carbon fiber forks and all Civia Carbon forks sold as aftermarket products. The forks are black and have the word “Civia†forged into the fork dropout.
Specialty bicycle retailers sold the recalled Hyland Bicycles and Carbon Bicycle Forks nationwide from April 2008 through February 2010 for between $1,675 and $3,500, for Civia Hyland complete bicycles and for about $195 for Civia Carbon forks, respectively.
The CPSC is advising consumers to immediately stop riding these recalled bicycles with the recalled forks and contact an authorized Civia Cycles dealer for a free replacement fork. All known users have been contacted. Civia Cycles can be reached toll-free at (877) 774-6208 between 8:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. Eastern Time, Monday through Friday or at the firm’s Web site at www.civiacycles.com
