A driver was fatally injured after crashing into a vehicle while driving the wrong way on an upstate New York road, state police say.
Police say the accident happened when 24-year-old Nicholas Kay of Montgomery drove east in the westbound lanes of Route 17 at about 9:15 p.m. Sunday, The Associated Press reports. The crash occurred in the town of Mamakating in Sullivan County.
Kay died when he collided head-on with a car driven by a 24-year-old man from Vestal just east of Exit 113. The other driver was taken by helicopter to the hospital, suffering non-life-threatening injuries, according to the AP. A section of Route 17 was closed for about two hours following the accident.
State police ask that anyone who may have seen Kay driving the wrong way contact them at 845-888-5385.
