The actual wire has “THHN Cerro Wire 14 gauge†printed on it. The UPC number and 12 gauge is found on the plastic wrap and on a label at the bottom of the reel.
The recalled THNN Electrical Wire, which was manufactured in the United States, was sold from December 2009 through April 2010 in 50-food wire spools for $9 and in 100-foot spools for about $16 at Home Depot & Menards stores in the following states: Colorado, Iowa, Idaho, Illinios, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Montana, North Dakota, Nebraska, Ohio, Oregon, Pennsylvania, South Dakota, Utah, Washington, Wisconsin, and Wyoming.
The CPSC is advising consumers to immediately stop using any switches, outlets, or electrical devices using this wire and to contact Cerro Wire for instructions on returning the product for a refund. Any contractor or subcontractor who used this wire should inspect their work to see that their work meets local electrical wiring code.
