Flying Food Group’s Lawrenceville, Georgia facility just updated its prior recall of U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA) regulated sandwiches, the FDA said. The original recall was announced on December 3. The recalls have been initiated because the foods have the potential to be contaminated with the dangerous food borne pathogen, Listeria monocytogenes.
The revised recall now includes two additional products that were inadvertently excluded from the original press release. The two newly recalled products are a Turkey Quarter Pounder and a Turkey Quarter Pounder with Tomatoes.
To date, no illnesses have been reported in connection with this problem; however, as we have long explained, Listeria illness can take up to two months to manifest with symptoms.
Listeria monocytogenes can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems, such as the very young, the elderly, and people diagnosed with AIDS or HIV or who are undergoing chemotherapy treatment. Healthy people may suffer short-term symptoms such as high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain, and diarrhea; Listeria infection can cause miscarriages and stillbirths among pregnant women
The following is a complete list of FDA-regulated products implicated in this recall. These products were made for Race Trac, were distributed to retail outlets in Georgia only, and have “Sell Thru” dates of 10/11/22 – 11/30/11:
• Chicken Quarter Pounder: 7.8 ounces
• Chicken Quarter Pounder with Tomatoes: 8.8-ounces
• Ham Quarter Pounder: 7.38-ounces
• Ham Quarter Pounder with Tomatoes: 9.05-ounces
• American Sub: 10.17 ounces
• Turkey Quarter Pounder: 7.38 ounces
• Turkey Quarter Pounder with Tomatoes: 9.05 ounces
The potential for contamination was noted after the intact packaged ingredient was sampled by Flying Food Group, which revealed the presence of Listeria. Flying Food suspended production of all products at its Lawrenceville, Georgia facility, effective November 29th, pending a full investigation.
The recalled products are beyond their sell-by dates; however, consumers who may still have the recalled products are advised to destroy the product or return it to the location where purchased for a full refund. In July, we wrote that Flying Food recalled all of its U.S. Department of Agriculture- (USDA) and FDA-regulated products, including sandwiches, parfaits, wraps, plates, and salads, over concerns the products were contaminated with the Listeria monocytogenes bacteria. That potential contamination was discovered during sampling and testing conducted by the Georgia Department of Agriculture. Production of all foods at the Lawrenceville facility was voluntarily suspended pending a full investigation into the source of the problem. That recall expanded a July 19th recall implemented at the request of the USDA and included products made for Core-mark Atlanta Division, Race Trac, and Starbucks.
