A voluntary precautionary recall has been issued by Fresh Express Incorporated of 480 cases of 11-oz. Fresh Express American Salad with a Product Code of G264A12A and a Use-by-Date of October 5, 2016. The reason for the removal of the recalled product from store shelves was the possible exposure to undeclared allergens including eggs, milk, wheat, and anchovies. Fresh Express representatives are cooperating with retail stores to ensure removal where the product was distributed, primarily in southern states.
The recall was seen as necessary due to the possible mistaken inclusion of a small number of Caesar Salad condiment packets with undeclared allergens in a limited number of American Salads. Even though the condiments are in a separate clear packet and labeled “Caesar,” the ingredient list for the condiments is not listed on the package label, and consumers will not be aware that allergens may be present, reports the U.S Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
This is an isolated incident, and Fresh Express is voluntarily recalling all products that could possibly contain the incorrect condiment packet in their interest of always safeguarding the health and wellbeing of consumers, reports the FDA.
