Another recall has been announced by the <"https://www.yourlawyer.com/practice_areas/food_poisoning">U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) over potential contamination with the dangerous food borne pathogen, Salmonella. This time, American Egg Products of Blackshear, Georgia, is recalling five pound cartons of its Frozen Egg Product.
The recalled American Egg Products’ Frozen Egg Products bear Lot #272-1 and were distributed to Georgia and Florida and sold to three distributors and/or further food manufacturers. According to the FDA, American Egg Products Frozen Egg Product is packaged in five-pound paper cartons with the lot number printed both across the side of the master case and embossed on the gable of each individual carton inside the case and with the plant number 272 1 P 1105.
No illnesses have been reported, to date in connection with this product; however, the effects of Salmonella poisoning—Salmonellosis—can take some time to manifest. The most common symptoms of salmonellosis are diarrhea, abdominal cramps, and fever within six to 72 hours. Additional symptoms include chills, headache, nausea, and vomiting that can last up to seven days. The illness usually lasts four to seven days. In some patients, however, the organism can invade the bloodstream, becoming so severe that hospitalization is required. Sometimes, infection with the Salmonella pathogen can result in, and produce more, severe or chronic illnesses.
Salmonella, can be dangerous, sometimes deadly, and sufferers can be plagued with serious life-long health issues. Salmonellosis, one of the most common bacterial food borne illnesses, can be especially life threatening to those with weakened immune systems, such as infants, the elderly, and persons with HIV infection or who are undergoing chemotherapy.
The recall was initiated following routine sampling by a private laboratory, which revealed that the finished product contained the Salmonella pathogen. The company ceased distribution of the Frozen Egg Product and is involved in a collaborative investigation with the FDA.
Consumers who purchased any recalled American Egg Products’ Frozen Egg Product bearing Lot # 272-1, are urged to return the recalled product to the place of purchase for a full refund.
