In the first, Dollar Tree Inc., of Chesapeake, Virginia recalled approximately 470,000 Crafters Square Hot Melt Mini Glue Guns which were manufactured in China and imported by Greenbrier International Inc., also of Chesapeake. The gun dispenses hot glue and is intended for craft projects; however, the glue guns can short circuit, causing the gun to smoke, which poses a fire hazard and has been linked to four reports of guns short-circuiting.
Specifically, the recall involves the Crafters Square Hot Melt Mini Glue Gun with product number 939701. The product number and “Crafters Square†are located on the glue gun’s packaging. The glue gun is black with an orange trigger and measures approximately 4 1/2 inches and has an attached 44-inch electrical cord. “DS-010 Glue Gun†is written in raised letters on the handle of the gun. The Crafters Square Hot Melt Mini Glue Gun was sold at Dollar Tree, Dollar Bill$, Dollar Express, Greenbacks, Only One $1, and Deal$ stores nationwide from December 2007 through March 2008 and retailed for about $1. Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled glue guns and return them to the store where purchased for a full refund. Dollar Tree Stores can be reached at (800) 876-8077 between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. ET Monday through Friday and at the firm’s Website at www.dollartree.com
In another recall, the CPSC, in cooperation with A.O. Smith Electrical Products Co., of Tipp City, Ohio announced a recall of 6,750 Water Pump Motors that also includes replacement pump motors sold separately. Motors are included with lawn sprinkler and jet pumps manufactured by F. E. Myers Co. and are labeled as containing a one-horsepower motor. In fact, the motors contain a 3/4-horsepower motor, which under certain conditions, could overheat, posing a fire hazard to consumers. Only pumps manufactured between August 2007-May 2008 are involved. The model number, manufacturing date code, and “Myers†are located on the pump’s nameplate and packaging. The pump’s motor has “A. O. Smith†and model number “C48D52B86†on its nameplate; the replacement motor’s packaging has “Myers†and model number “20935A000K†printed on it. Products with an “OK†sticker on the product or packaging are not included. The pumps were manufactured in Mexico and sold to plumbing wholesalers and distributors nationwide and to independent contractors and plumbers between August 2007-May 2008 and retailed for $500-$750; replacement motors sold for between $300-$400.
