A large product recall of Golden Tea Lights sold with Ornament Tea Light Holders has been initiated by Pier 1 Imports®, of Fort Worth, Texas, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) and Health Canada (HC), just announced.
The flame from the Defective Product can burn with a high flame, posing a fire hazard. To date, Pier 1 Imports has received four reports of high flames. In one of these incidents, the consumer suffered a minor burn.
This recall involves all Golden Tea Lights in golden tin cups sold in sets of five with either the Red Ornament Tea Light Holder (SKU 2473959) or the White Ornament Tea Light Holder (SKU 2473961). The SKU number is found on the packaging.
The recalled Golden Tea Lights were sold exclusively at Pier 1 Imports stores from September 2010 through January 2011 for between $2 and $8.
About 370,000 Pier 1 Imports Golden Tea Lights were recalled in the United States and additional 30,000 were recalled in Canada.
The recalled Golden Tea Lights were sold with ornament tea light holders, were manufactured in China, and were imported by Pier 1 Imports®, of Fort Worth, Texas.
The CPSC is advising consumers to immediately stop using the recalled Golden Tea Lights and return them to the nearest Pier 1 Imports store to receive new tea lights. The agencies also remind consumers that it is illegal to resell or to attempt to resell a recalled consumer product.
