Jones Seasoning has issued a recall over possible Salmonella contamination, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) just announced. Jones Seasoning Blends LLC of University Place, Washington, is recalling its Jones’ Mock Salt Original and its Jones’ Mock Salt Spicy Southwest Blend over the potential contamination.
No illnesses have been reported, to date, in connection with this recall; however, it is important to note that Salmonella poisoning can take some time to manifest with symptoms.
Salmonella is an organism, which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Healthy persons infected with Salmonella often experience fever, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain. In rare circumstances, Salmonella infection can result in the organism getting into the bloodstream and producing more severe illnesses such as arterial infections (i.e., infected aneurysms), endocarditis and arthritis.
The recall was initiated over potential Salmonella contamination of the celery seeds ingredient used in Jones Mock Salt; Jones Seasoning Blends LLC is not responsible for the Salmonella contamination. The celery seeds supplier has been recalling the product and Jones Seasoning Blends LLC has also notified the public.
