The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) just announced that a recall by Kolcraft for its Jeep Liberty Strollers has been implemented over projectile hazard.
The Jeep Liberty Stroller tire’s inner tube can rupture, which can cause the wheel rim to fracture and fly off as a projectile. This defect poses a risk of bodily injury and property damage, according to the Commission.
To date, Kolcraft and the CPSC have received 39 reports of inner tube ruptures; 18 involved reports of injury. Of those, 14 took place when the tire was being filled with air by an adult caregiver. Two children received lacerations to their chin or leg while standing near the stroller; 16 adults received abrasions, contusions, and/or lacerations to their arms, legs, stomach, or head and face; and two reports involved property damage, according to Philly.com.
About 97,000 Jeep Liberty Strollers are involved in the recall in the United States and Canada, according to Philly.com. Model numbers beginning with JL031, JL032, JL034, JL035, or JL036 that were manufactured between June 2010 and September 2011 are involved in the recall.
