Land of Nod just issued a recall of certain bed frames over entrapment hazard, the U.S. Consumer Products Safety Commission (CPSC) announced.
About 1,600 Blake Bed Frames manufactured by The Land of Nod, of Morton Grove, Illinois are involved. The defective bed frames were manufactured in Vietnam and sold exclusively at The Land of Nod stores in Illinois and Washington, The Land of Nod catalog, and The Land of Nod website from September 2009 through October 2011 for about $600 for the twin size and $700 for full size.
A child’s torso can become lodged in the gap between the footboard’s top rail and the mattress, posing an entrapment hazard to the child. To date, the firm has received one report of a child becoming entrapped in the gap. The child was freed by her parents without injury.
This recall involves Blake model bed frames. The frames were sold in full and twin sizes, in either a blonde stain or painted white. The words “The Land of Nod” and “Blake” are printed on a barcode sticker that is affixed to the headboard.
The firm advises consumers to immediately stop using the recalled footboard and contact The Land of Nod for a replacement footboard with a closed-gap design. Last January, we wrote that about 300 Rosebud Drop-Side Cribs, which were manufactured in Canada by Status Furniture, of Quebec, Canada (out of business) and distributed and sold by The Land of Nod, of Northbrook, Illinois, were recalled because the drop-side rail hardware on the cribs can break or fail, allowing the drop side to detach from the crib. At the time of the recall, the CPSC and The Land of Nod received 13 reports involving drop-side hardware on this defective product that had malfunctioned or failed.
The prior September, The Land of Nod, issued a recall for 2,100 of its “Play With Your Veggies” toys because the metal wire in the toy asparagus could become exposed, posing a laceration hazard to children. At the time of that recall, the firm received a report of an exposed wire in the asparagus.
In 2009, The Land of Nod recalled about 750 of its Cottage Bunk Beds due to fall hazard. The Cottage Bunk Beds might have had missing screws from the upper bunk bed’s guardrails, which can cause the vertical slats on the guardrail to detach, posing a fall risk to children when getting into or coming out of the upper bunk. The Land of Nod received two reports of vertical slats detaching from upper bunk guardrails at the time of the recall.
