This is the second recall on which we have written today regarding a defective product manufactured in China. Products including dog food, baby formula, toys with lead paint, and even pharmaceuticals like heparin were found to have been made with toxic materials and other counterfeit ingredients that have long put American consumers at significant health risks. A large and ongoing situation involves the defective Chinese drywall that has been making news for its impact to tens of thousands of homes nationwide. Lawsuits in that debacle begin this month.
In 2008, nearly 80 percent of all product recalls in the U.S. involved imports from China. Most recently, cadmium in children’s toys has been linked to China and has been involved in large product recalls.
