Ian’s is voluntarily recalling specific lot numbers of two products due to a risk of contamination with <"https://www.yourlawyer.com/topics/overview/listeria">Listeria, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) just announced.
The following two products with the specific use-by dates and UPC codes listed are being recalled because they may have been distributed to retailers nationwide and sold in the frozen foods section of the supermarket. A total of 492 individual boxes are potentially affected:
• 8-ounce boxes of Ian’s Wheat Free, Gluten Free Mac and No Cheese with a use-by date of 26Aug2011 and UPC code 7-49512-43670-8 (372 packages impacted).
• 8-ounce boxes of Ian’s Wheat Free, Gluten Free French Bread Pizza with a use-by date of 28Aug2011 and UPC code 7-49512-91572-2 (120 packages impacted).
Consumers who purchased the above products, with the specific use-by dates and UPC codes listed, are asked to return the products to the place of purchase to receive a full refund. Products that do not contain the specific use-by dates and UPC codes listed are not affected by the recall, and can be used by consumers.

Consumption of food contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes can cause Listeriosis, a potentially fatal <"https://www.yourlawyer.com/practice_areas/food_poisoning">foodborne illness. While healthy people rarely contract Listeriosis, the infection can cause high fever, severe headache, neck stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain, and diarrhea.
<"https://www.yourlawyer.com/">Listeriosis is known to result in serious, sometimes fatal, infections in those with weakened immune systems, such as infants, the elderly, persons with HIV infection, and those undergoing chemotherapy.
In pregnant women, Listeria food poisoning can result in miscarriage, stillbirth, or birth of a baby suffering from the infection. Pregnant women are about 20 times likelier than others to be infected; Listeriosis can kill fetuses, prompt premature births, and can lead to hearing loss or brain damage in newborns and neurological effects and cardio respiratory failure in adults.
Listeria monocytogenes infects about 2,500 people in the U.S., killing 500.
