Another <"https://www.yourlawyer.com/topics/overview/oil_spills">oil spill is endangering Louisiana’s marshes. MSNBC is reporting that early this morning, a tugboat hit a wellhead in the Gulf of Mexico on the border of the state’s Plaquemines and Jefferson parishes.
Oil is now gushing from the well, 20 feet into the air. In addition to oil, the well is also spewing natural gas.
According to a report on WWLTV, the well is now leaking oil near Bayou St. Denis. It is not yet clear who owns the well. However, a contractor who handles wild wells is on the way.
There are no specific estimates on how much oil might be spilling from the well, MSNBC said. Cleanup workers are currently booming off the area and the scene at sea has been taken over by federal agents. Responders to the incident include the US Coast Guard, Jefferson Parish police and fire officials, and Vessels of Opportunity boats.
The Associated Press is reporting that the Coast Guard has received reports of an oil sheen in Mud Lake, north of Barataria Bay. That is an area that officials have been trying protect from oil from the BP oil rig disaster.
The area has been evacuated and civilian boats are being told not to enter the scene.
