Seventy-five bottles of <"https://www.yourlawyer.com/practice_areas/defective_drugs">metronidazole tablets are being recalled by Teva Pharmaceuticals because the pills may be underweight. As such, the metronidazole tablets may not contain an adequate amount of active ingredient.
Metronidazole is indicated for the treatment of symptomatic and asymptomatic trichomoniasis, and treatment of asymptomatic consorts, amebiasis and a variety of anaerobic bacterial infection. Taking pills that are underweight and lack an appropriate amount of active ingredient could result in a worsening of such infections, which in some instances could become life-threatening.
This recall involves one lot, or around 75 bottles, of Metronidazole Tablets USP, 250mg. Each recalled bottle, which contains 250 tablets, bears lot number 312566, and an expiration date of 05/2011. The affected tablets were shipped in May 2009.
According to the recall notice, wholesalers and retailers have been previously notified of this recall via overnight notification on 10/25/10 and are in the process of returning this product lot. Consumers who have lot 312566 in their possession are instructed to cease using the product and return it to their pharmacy. Wholesalers and retailers should cease distribution and examine their inventory immediately.
Teva said it has not learned of any side effects associated with the underweight tablets.
