Mission Archery just issued a recall for about 9,500 MXB crossbows over injury hazard, according to the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC).
The recalled Mission Archery MXB crossbows may fire unexpectedly without the trigger being pulled. This presents an injury hazard to the crossbow user, as well as bystanders and passersby.
To date, Mission Archery has received three reports of the recalled MXB crossbow firing unexpectedly. No injuries have been reported.
The recalled Mission Archery crossbows have an automatic safety located behind the trigger at the rear of the scope mount. The model numbers involved are MXB 320, MXB Dagger, MXB 400, and MXB 360; serial numbers range from XB04879 to XB16555.
The crossbows were sold in black, lost camo AT (a three-color camouflage pattern of light brown, dark brown, and dark green), white camo, and pink camo. The crossbows measure 29 – 35 inches in length and were available individually or as part of a package that included a black scope, a quiver, three bolts, and a rope cocking aid. The words “Mission by Mathews” is engraved on the left rear side of the crossbow’s rail and the serial number may be found on the underside of the rail, directly behind the safety. The words “Mission” and the model name are printed on each limb.
Consumers are advised to immediately stop using the recalled Mission Archery MXB crossbows and return them to a Mission Archery authorized dealer for a free repair. Consumers may also contact Mission Archery for instructions on returning the product directly to Mission Archery for free repair and free shipping. The recalled Mission Archery MXB crossbows were sold at archery and hunting sporting goods stores nationwide from May 2013 through April 2014. The recalled MXB crossbows sold for between $600 and $1,300.
The recalled Mission Archery crossbows were manufactured in the United States by Mathews Archery Inc., doing business as Mission Archery, of Sparta, Wisconsin.
The CPSC notes that federal law prohibits the sale of products that have been the subject of a publicly announced, voluntary recall by a manufacturer, or a mandatory recall ordered by the Commission.
