More Than 7 Million Tea Light Candles Recalled For Fire Hazard

A massive <"https://www.yourlawyer.com/practice_areas/product_liability">Tea Light recall has just been announced by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC). About 615,195 defective Tea Light sets—about 7.48 million candles—are involved in this product recall.

The recalled candles were manufactured in Vietnam; imported by Pacific Trade International Inc. of Rockville, Maryland; and sold at Fred Meyer, Home Goods, Marshalls, Super Value, Target, TJ Maxx, and Wegmans stores nationwide between July 2009 and February 2011 for between $1 and $12.

The defective candles all have a clear, plastic cup that can melt or ignite, posing a fire and burn hazard to consumers. To date, Pacific Trade has received one report of the plastic cup melting while in use. No injuries or property damage have been reported.

The recall involves tea lights sold under the brand names Chesapeake Bay Candle and Modern Light. The candles are various colors and were sold in sets or with tea light containers. Tea lights from the following sets are involved with this recall and only tea lights that do not have any lettering imprinted on the bottom of the tea light cup are included in this recall.

Retailer: Fred Meyer; Chesapeake Bay Candle

• A 36-piece plastic tea light set sold August 2009-February 2001 for about $12. UPC codes: 754870634000 and 754870687846.

Retailer: Super Value; Modern Light Halloween Votive Holder with Tea Light

• Various scents sold August 2010-November 2010 for about $1. UPC: 754870668128, 754870668135, and 754870668142.

Retailer: Target; Chesapeake Bay Candles

• Homes Scents 12-count tea lights in various scents sold from July 2009-February 2011 for about $4. UPCs: 754870479250, 754870479328, 754870479397, 754870479441, 754870479496, 754870479540, 754870479649, 754870481147, 754870490583, 754870528262, 754870528347, 754870528361, 754870657689, 754870657726, 754870657764, 754870606458, 754870684333, 754870703386, 754870703423, 754870606359, 754870633416, 754870659072, 754870659119, 754870659157, and 754870684296.

• Sweet Delights 12-count tea light candle set in various scents sold January 2010-February 2011 for about $5. UPCs: UPCS754870658693 and754870658709.

• Sentiments 12-count tea light candles in various scents sold February 2010-June 2010 for about $5. UPCs: 754870658334 and 754870658341.

Retailer: TJX/Marshall’s/Home Goods; Chesapeake Bay Candle

• Boo Flicker sold July 2010 through November 2010 for about $5. UPC: 754870700026.

Retailer: Wegmans; Modern Light Four-Piece Treetop Tea Lights

• Various scents sold November 2010-December 2010 for about $6. UPC: 754870686580.

The CPSC advises consumers to immediately stop using the recalled candles and return them to the store where purchased for a store merchandise card equal to the purchase price.
