A 27-year-old woman riding in a livery car was killed on New Year’s morning when the cab was rear-ended while stopped at a red light in the Bronx, police said.
The livery car, a silver Mercury Grand Marquis, was at the intersection of a service road of the Cross Bronx Expressway and Rosedale Ave. A fast-moving black Dodge Charger slammed into it, the New York Daily News reports, crushing the back of the cab and sending both vehicles spinning through the intersection.
The cab passenger was rushed to Jacobi Medical Center, where she died about half an hour later, police say. The Charger driver, 37, was also taken to Jacobi Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries. Police say charges against him were pending; his name was not released. The Daily News reports the livery cab driver abandoned the vehicle before police arrived.
In a hit and run earlier that morning, a 23-year-old woman was critically injured when she was run over after collapsing in the intersection of Story Ave. and White Plains Rd. in the Bronx, police said. The woman was believed to be drunk. She was hit by a 2002 Acura heading west on Story Ave. around 2:45 a.m., according to the Daily News. She was rushed to Jacobi Medical Center in critical condition. The Acura driver, Edwin Rosado, 45, who lives about three miles from where he hit the woman, was charged with leaving the scene of an accident with a serious injury.
