New York Attorney General Eric Schneiderman has recently filed a civil lawsuit accusing Donald Trump and his profit-making investment “university” of engaging in “persistent fraudulent, illegal and deceptive conduct.”
The civil lawsuit seeks restitution for people across the country who paid “for a series of expensive courses that did not deliver on their promises,” according to Schneiderman’s statement, reported by The New York Times.
The lawsuit accuses Trump and his organization of operating an unlicensed educational institution in New York from 2005 to 2011. Trump University did not have the license required under state law, according to the Times. Potential students were lured by free sessions, and then offered packages ranging in price from $10,000 to $35,000 for sham courses that were supposed to teach them how to become successful real estate investors. The Times reports that participants at one seminar, who had been told they would get to have a picture taken with Mr. Trump, instead were offered a photo with a cardboard cutout.
Asked whether the case will be difficult to prove, Schneiderman told NBC’s Today show, “No, I think the documents we’ve submitted so far probably entitle us to judgment.”
