In another report regarding <"https://www.yourlawyer.com/practice_areas/nursing_home_negligence">nursing home abuse, the North Country Gazette wrote that Queensbury, New York’s Westmount Health Facility has been fined following a survey conducted this February. The facility, operated by Warren County, is one of 11 in NY on which civil penalties were levied by the federal government for noncompliance with quality care mandates, said the North Country Gazette.

According to the North Country Gazette, the violations were detailed a in report of nursing home enforcements from March through June released by the Long Term Care Community Coalition (LTCC). Among the reports findings: The county and Westmount were fined $4,550 following a federal inspection in February. The North County Gazette noted that the fine represents a 35 percent reduction because the facility waived its legal right to a hearing.

Among other things, the LTCC report said that the most current state inspection at Westmount revealed 10 health deficiencies. Inspectors also found Westmount did not ensure it was “free of dangers that cause accidents,” it was not administered in such a way as to ensure the most appropriate level of care for its residents, and it did not create and maintain staff to “review and ensure quality,” said the North Country Gazette.

Sadly, problems with nursing homes are not uncommon. We recently wrote that the advocacy group, Kentuckians for Nursing Home Reform, asked the governor of Kentucky to appoint a task force to review nursing home abuse and death cases and the lack of prosecution into the growing problem of nursing home abuse in that state.

Just prior, we wrote that a Superior Court judge in California upheld a $29 million verdict in a nursing home abuse case. A lawsuit filed against the La Salle County Nursing Home in Illinois involved allegations a sexually abusive male resident. A Brooklyn nursing home was ordered to pay about $19 million in damages to a family whose loved one allegedly died following abject neglect.

www.nursinghome411.org provides details on sanctions, including facility names and locations. Once there, click on the “New York Nursing Home Enforcements” (yellow button, lower right side), said the North Country Gazette. Prior actions can be accessed via the Google search box (right side) with the name of the facility or town.
