Nissan has issued a recall of 46,000 of its <"https://www.yourlawyer.com/practice_areas/product_liability">Cube hatchbacks, wrote FreeP. The car, which has been recalled because of potential issues with fuel spilling when in a rear-end collision, noted FreeP.
The recall includes 2009 and 2010 model-year Cubes that were manufactured between January 30, 2009 and July 30, wrote FreeP.
The Cube is described as a sporty, boxy four-door marketed to urban drivers, said FreeP. The car was first introduced in Asia and, this year, consumers in the United States have purchased about 15,530 as of June, representing a 300-percent increase versus the same period the prior year, said FreeP.
Nissan said, according to documents filed with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) that tests conducted by agency regulators discovered that fuel spilled in excess of what federal standards permit when in rear-end collisions, wrote FreeP. The rear-end crash tests also involved the car being spun.
But Nissan said that its prior tests did not reveal fuel leakage, but has notified dealers and will contact owners later next month, said FreeP. Dealers will place a special protector on the vehicles to prevent the leakage problem, added FreeP.
Last month, Toyota reported a similar defect following NHTSA tests of a Lexus hybrid; however, the automaker’s own tests did not reveal any problem, said FreeP. Toyota issued a recall following the NHTSA findings.
Earlier this year, amid a number of highly publicized automotive recalls, the Nissan recalled about 260,000 of its pickup trucks, sport utility vehicles (SUVs), and minivans, said the Associated Press (AP). The recall is in the United States and meant to correct brake pedal and fuel gauge problems, added the AP.
A pin in the brake pedal assemblies on specific 2008 to 2010 Titan pickups and Armada SUVs, as well as some 2008 and 2009 Quest minivans can loosen, resulting in reduced braking force, said the AP, citing a statement issued by Nissan. Regarding faulty gas gauges, Nissan recalled specific 2005 to 2009 Armadas and Titans, as well as certain 2006 and 2008 Frontier pickups and Xterra and Pathfinder SUVs. A sensor within the fuel tank can cause the gas tank to indicate it is one-quarter full when it is actually empty, said the AP.
