Bags of pre-cooked chicken nuggets sold at Costco are being recalled after customers complained of plastic pieces in their food. A voluntary recall is being issued for Tyson Fully Cooked Panko Chicken Nuggets, which were sold at Costco locations nationwide. The recall also affects a small number of meat products sold to one wholesaler in Pennsylvania: 20-pound cases of bulk Spare Time brand cooked nugget-shaped chicken breast pattie fritters with rib meat.
The recalled 5-pound bags of chicken nuggets contain UPC code 0-237000-3558-5, item number 23575-928. These products have a “best if used by” date of July 18, 2017 with case codes 2006SDL03 or 2006SDL33. This information applies to products purchased at Costco since July 2016. The establishment number is “P-13556”. It can be found next to the “best if used by” date.
Tyson Foods, Inc., based in Springdale, Arkansas, received reports of customers finding small pieces of hard, white plastic in the chicken nuggets. The recall was issued in response to these complaints. Some 132,520 pounds of product are affected. Tyson says that the issue has only been noted in a small number of cases, but it is recalling the nuggets “out of an abundance of caution”.
The recall has not been associated with any injuries so far. The recall does not include the same nuggets sold in smaller packages.
