Pogoplug Video file sharing devices are being recalled for fire hazard, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) and Health Canada (HC) just announced.
About 9,500 of the defective Pogoplug Video file sharing devices have been recalled in the United States and another 1,500 have been recalled in Canada.
The defective Pogoplug Video file sharing devices were manufactured in China; imported by Cloud Engines Inc. of San Francisco, California; and sold at Adorama, B&H, Best Buy, Buy.com, J&R, Pogoplug.com, New Egg, and Sony Style from March 2011 through June 2011 for about $200.
The recalled Pogoplug Video file sharing devices can overheat or catch fire, emitting excessive heat, sparks, smoke, or flames. To date, Cloud Engines has received three reports of the units overheating. One device caught fire, one device emitted smoke, and one device melted, damaging the desk on which it was sitting.
The recalled Pogoplug Video file sharing device is a black desktop electronics box, measuring about 2.5 inches wide, 7 inches deep, and 5.5 inches high. It is used to stream and share videos, photos, and music and to provide remote access to files stored on drives attached to the device.
The device has the word “Pogoplug†on the side and “Model: Pogoplug Video†is listed on a label on the bottom of the device.
Consumers should immediately stop using and unplug the defective Pogoplug devices, and contact Cloud Engines to receive a refund or replacement device.
