About 1,333 Pre-Lit Artificial Christmas Trees have been recalled due to shock hazard, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) just announced. The agency is advising consumers to stop using the Defective Product immediately and notes that it is illegal to resell or to attempt to resell a Recalled Product.
The recalled Pre-Lit Artificial Christmas Trees were manufactured in China; imported by Balsam Hill LLC, of Redwood City, California; manufactured by Redwood Pacific Limited, of Hong Kong; and sold, online, from October 2007 to December 2010 for between $300 to $10,999.
The recalled Pre-Lit Artificial Christmas Trees were advertised before December 21, 2010 as indoor/outdoor and were supplied with extension cords rated for indoor use only, which poses an electrical shock hazard if used outside. To date, no incidents or injuries have been reported.
The recalled Pre-Lit Artificial Christmas Trees are safe for indoor use only and are supplied with extension cords with warning labels stating “For indoor use only.†The following models, sold before December 21, 2010, are affected by this recall. Model numbers for the trees are located on the cartons:

In addition to advising consumers to immediately stop using this Recalled Product outdoors, the CPSC notes that, if this product has been used exclusively indoors, consumers may continue to use it indoors. If consumers have used the tree outdoors or wish to use the tree outdoors, they must contact Balsam Hill to receive a free retrofit kit containing an outdoor extension cord.
