The undersized wiring can cause the tree topper’s switch assembly to overheat and melt posing a fire hazard, a very significant problem given that we are in the midst of the holiday season and families everywhere are in the process of decorating or displaying their trees for the Christmas holiday next week.
To date, Precious Moments has received two reported incidents involving the Precious Moments Angel Tree Toppers overheating. No injuries have been reported.
The recalled tree toppers are 10-inch-tall vinyl angels with LED lighted wings. The angels are white, gold, and yellow and they are holding either a star or a set of bells.
The Precious Moments Angel Tree Toppers sold for about $18 at Menards, Shopko and Blain’s Farm, and Fleet nationwide from August 2009 through December 2009.
The CPSC is advising consumers to immediately stop using the recalled Precious Moments Angel Tree Toppers and return them to the place of purchase for a full refund. Precious Moments can be reached toll-free at 1-877-778-7275 between 8:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. Central Time or at its Web site at www.preciousmoments.com
We have been following the issue of defective, sometimes dangerous, imports making their way into this country from China. The recalled Precious Moments Angel Tree Toppers is just one of two such recalls on which we have written today alone on such defective and dangerous products manufactured in China. Other defective products, food, pet food, and medicines—for example—imported into this country from China are among similar recalls. Such defective imports have been making headlines in recent years and the recalled Precious Moments Angel Tree Toppers is just another one of many such issues.
In 2008, nearly 80 percent of all product recalls in the U.S. involved imports from China. Products such as dog food, baby formula, toys with lead paint, and even pharmaceuticals like heparin were found to have been made with toxic materials and other counterfeit ingredients that have long put American consumers at significant health risks.
