The CPSC is advising consumers to stop using the recalled Redline D640 Bicycles immediately and notes that it is illegal to resell or to attempt to resell a recalled consumer product.
The recall was issued because the head tube can separate from the frame, causing the rider to lose control and fall.
This poses a risk of serious injury. To date, Seattle Bikes is aware of eight reports of head tubes separating from the frame, including four reports of minor scrapes and cuts.
The recalled Redline D640 Bicycles, which were manufactured in China, were imported by the Seattle Bike Supply of Kent, Washington.
This recall involves all 2008 Redline D640 bicycles. The bicycles were sold in black and have aluminum frames. “REDLINE” is written down the frame’s tube. The model number is written on the frame’s top tube.
The recalled Redline D640 Bicycles were sold at bicycle specialty stores nationwide from December 2007 to May 2010 for about $900.
The CPSC is advising consumers to immediately stop using the recalled bicycles and to contact a local Redline bicycle dealer to receive a free frame replacement.
