The New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets just announced that the New York State Agriculture Commissioner Patrick Hooker has alerted consumers that Hamilton Corner Meat Market Inc., located at 1 Hamilton Place, New York, New York 10031, is recalling all packages of “ground beef” sold from bulk on September 7, 2010, due to the presence of <"https://www.yourlawyer.com/practice_areas/food_poisoning">Salmonella.
The recalled “ground beef” is sold in bulk from the store’s meat case and is coded with the date of purchase Sept. 7, 2010. The product was sold retail from the store’s sole location at 1 Hamilton Place, New York, New York.
Healthy persons infected with Salmonella poisoning—Salmonellosis—often experience fever, diarrhea (which may be bloody), nausea, vomiting, and abdominal pain. In rare circumstances, infection with Salmonella can result in the organism getting into the bloodstream and producing more severe illnesses such as arterial infections, endocarditic, and arthritis.
Salmonella can also lead to serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems.
No illnesses have been reported to date in connection with the recalled product.
The contamination was discovered after a sample, collected by a food inspector and analyzed by the New York State Food Laboratory, revealed the presence of Salmonella in a bulk sample of “ground beef.”
Consumers who had purchased bulk packaged “ground beef” on September 7, 2010 and are in possession of the product are urged to return it to the place of purchase or to discard the product.
