Frankly Fresh, Inc. of Carson, California, just issued a recall of its seafood line of products over concerns of <"https://www.yourlawyer.com/topics/overview/listeria">Listeria monocytogenes contamination, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) just announced. The recalled seafood salad was distributed in California and Nevada through retail supermarket stores and was packaged under the Frankly Fresh label in a variety of sizes in plastic containers with safety seals on. To date, no illnesses have been reported; however, foodborne illnesses can take time to manifest. The recall was the result of a routine sampling program by the FDA in conjunction with Frankly Fresh Company, which revealed that the finished products may contain the Listeria bacteria.
For susceptible populations, infection with the
Listeria pathogen can cause significant illness linked to the central nervous system, the developing fetus, and placenta. Consumption of food contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes can cause Listeriosis, a potentially fatal foodborne Illness, that infects about 2,500 people in the U.S., killing 500. Symptoms are high fever, severe headache, neck stiffness, nausea, abdominal cramps and pain, and diarrhea. Pregnant women are 20 times likelier to be infected and Listeriosis can kill fetuses, prompt premature births, can lead to hearing loss or brain damage in newborns, and can prompt neurological effects and cardio respiratory failure in adults.
Consumers who purchased Frankly Fresh Seafood Products are urged to return the recalled product to the place of purchase for a full refund.
