Slalom Glider Children’s Slides have been recalled for fall hazard, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), just announced.
About 900 Slalom Gliders, which were manufactured in the United States by Landscape Structures Inc., of Delano, Minnesota and sold to schools and other facilities with playground equipment, nationwide, between January 2006 and December 2011, have been recalled. The defective Slalom Gliders sold for about $2300.
The recalled Slalom Glider is a playground slide that lacks a transition platform on the top and sides of the chute. Because of this, children can fall when moving from the ladder to the slide and when descending the chute. To date, the firm and the CPSC have received 16 reports of injuries to children less than eight years of age. Injuries include one bruised arm, 14 fractures to arms and legs, one fractured collar bone, and one bruised spleen.
The recalled Slalom Glider is a distinctive six-foot tall playground slide that is curved in shape and made from molded plastic. The Slalom Glider includes an arched, tubular steel access ladder and comes as a stand-alone slide or as an attachment to other playground equipment.
The recalled Slalom Gliders bear model numbers 156456 and 172627 and were sold in a combination of colors, including red, blue, tan, green, granite, and white.
The firm advises consumers to immediately stop children from using the recalled Slalom Gliders.
Owners will be contacted by Landscape Structures regarding removal instructions and customers will be given the option of replacing the Slalom Glider with another piece of playground equipment, receiving a refund, or receiving credit toward a future purchase. Landscape Structures can be reached, toll-free, at 1.888.438.6574, Monday through Friday, from 9:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m., Central Time (CT), or at the firm’s website at www.playlsi.com.
