Specialized Bike Components Inc. of Morgan Hill, California has issued two bike recalls because of <"https://www.yourlawyer.com/practice_areas/product_liability">fall hazards. According to the company’s recall notices, several riders have sustained serious injuries when they have fallen from the recalled bikes.
The first Specialized Bike Components recall involves HL handlebars on the following 2009 Specialized bicycles: Cross Trail Comp, Myka HT Comp, Myka HT Elite, Rockhopper, Rockhopper Comp and Rockhopper Comp 29.
The model number of the HL handlebar is ALR-13 NTFOV and is located underneath the right hand grip of the handlebar. About 14,000 bikes are included in this recall. They were sold at authorized dealers nationwide from June 2008 through February 2009 for between $640 and $1,050.
Specialized Bike Components has received two reports of the handlebar breaking during use, one of which caused a rider to suffer head trauma which resulted in unconsciousness and a puncture wound to the arm.
Consumers should immediately stop riding these bicycles and contact a Specialized Bike Components dealer for a free replacement handlebar.
The second Specialized Bike Components recall involves 3,000 2004 Roubaix Comp and Roubaix Pro bicycles. The cable stop on the bicycle can loosen, which can cause the rider to lose control and fall from the bike. The company has received reports of two falls that resulted in fractures requiring medical attention and surgery.
Only bicycles with a single rivet fastening the cable stop to the frame are subject to recall. The cable stop is attached through bonding materials and a single rivet mounted at the front of the bicycle. The cables pass through eyelets in the cable stop on the down tube. Bicycles with a double rivet fastening the cable stop to the frame are not subject to recall. The model names of the recalled bicycles can be found on the top tube of the bicycles.
The bicycles subject to this recall were sold at Specialized Bike Components authorized dealers nationwide from September 2003 through August 2004 for between $1,600 and $4,000.
Consumers should immediately stop using their bicycle and return their bicycle to a Specialized authorized dealer for an approved repair, at no cost to consumer.
