Some 4,000 Ryan’s Room brand Spin-A-Mals Farm and Safari Puzzles have been recalled over choking hazard, Small World Toys and the U.S Consumer Products Safety Commission (CPSC) just announced.
The wooden puzzles are comprised of small pegs on puzzle boards, which can become loose and can separate from the boards. This poses a choking hazard to children. To date, said Gifts and Decorative Accessories, the firm has received four reports in which the pegs separated from the puzzle board. No injuries have been reported.
The Ryan’s Room Spin-A-Mals Farm and Safari Puzzles are intended for children over 12 months of age, said the CPSC. The puzzles are made of wood and consist of a painted, rectangular board mounted with pegs, as well as removable gear and animal-shaped pieces. The farm puzzle consists of 14 puzzle pieces, which includes three animal pieces: a cow, a dog and a sheep. The safari puzzle consists of 11 puzzle pieces.
The puzzle toys are designed so that children place the pieces onto the pegs, using the knob on one of the pieces or inserting an animal figure into other pieces to rotate the gears. The words “2012 Small World Toys” are found on the bottom right of the puzzle boards.
The toys, which were manufactured in China, were sold in toy stores nationwide and in catalogs from May 2012 through October 2012 for about $25. The recalled Spin-A-Mals Farm and Safari Puzzles were imported by Small World Toys Enterprises, of Torrance, California.
Consumers are advised to take the puzzles away from children immediately and contact Small World Toys for a free replacement toy. After contacting Small World Toys, the recalled Spin-A-Mals Farm and Safari Puzzles should be destroyed and disposed of to ensure the toys cannot be used.
