About 63,100 6K and 7KC Series Door Locksets have been recalled by Stanley Security Solutions for entrapment risks. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) just announced the product recall.
The Stanley Security Door Lock Sets’ latches could fail, which could lead to entrapment in an emergency because the door cannot be unlocked from the inside. This failure could lead to the inability to vacate a location in an emergency situation. To date, Stanley Security Solutions has received five reports of the latches failing; one entrapment has been reported. No injuries have been reported.
The defective product was manufactured in Taiwan by Stanley Security Solutions Inc., of Indianapolis, Indiana. The recalled latches are in 6K and 7KC series medium Duty Locksets.
These locksets have a brass or stainless steel finish and may have the word “BEST” embossed on the key core. The recalled door locks were sold nationwide to end users through either the firm’s network of branches or independent dealers from April 2010 through January 2011 for between about $80 and $260.
The CPSC is advising consumers to contact Stanley Security Solutions to schedule an appointment to have the latches on the defective door locks replaced free of charge.
Stanley Security Solutions can be reached toll-free at 1.888.312.8875 between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m., Eastern Time, Monday through Friday or at the firm’s website. Details on the firm’s announcement can be accessed online.
