Fred & Friends has recalled three of its infant pacifier styles because they pose a choking hazard to young children. The Chill Baby Artiste, Volume, and Panic pacifiers fail to meet federal safety standards.
About 200,000 pacifiers were recalled (183,000 in the U.S. and 17,000 in Canada), according to the announcement on the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) web site yesterday. The CPSC said the pacifiers are dangerous to young children because the beard on the Artiste pacifiers and the knob on the Volume pacifiers can detach, posing a choking hazard. In addition, the ventilation holes on the Volume and Panic pacifier guards are too small.
The pacifiers are made of plastic and silicone rubber and measure approximately 2 inches by 1½ inches. The Artiste’s UPC code is 728987021282, the Volume’s UPC is 728987020599 and the Panic style’s UPC is 728987020605. The pacifiers were sold at toy and department stores, baby product stores, drug stores, grocery and home stores, in hospital and museum gift shops, and through websites from April 2013 through December 2013. They sold for about $10.
Parents or caregivers are directed to take the recalled pacifiers away from infants and young children immediately. The pacifiers should be returned to Fred & Friends for a $12 refund. The company will provide a postage-paid envelope for the return.
