Toys R Us just issued a recall of its Imaginarium Activity Centers for choking hazard, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) announced.
About 24,000 Imaginarium 5-Sided Activity Centers, which were manufactured in China and imported by Toys R Us Inc. of Wayne, New Jersey are involved. The small wooden knobs attaching the xylophone keys to the end can detach, causing a choking hazard to young children. To date, Toys R Us has received eight reports of the knobs detaching. No injuries have been reported to the firm.
The recalled Imaginarium Activity Centers were sold exclusively at Toys R Us stores nationwide and online via www.toysrus.com from August 2009 through September 2010. The Activity Centers sold for about $25.
This recall involves the Imaginarium 5-Sided Activity Center. The multi-sided center is constructed with two triangle-shaped ends, a wooden multi-colored xylophone on one end and a mirror on the other end. The three sides are square-shaped and include moveable block letters, rotating gears, and sliding shapes. The name “Imaginarium” appears in a blue, oval-shaped logo beneath the mirror on one end. The second ‘i’ in the logo is dotted with a shooting star.
The recall involves Imaginarium Activity Centers with model number 46284, Toys R Us item number 295909, and barcode number 000799985462841. The model number is printed on the back of the box, directly above the bar code; these numerical markings do not appear on the product.
The firm advises consumers to immediately stop using the recalled Imaginarium Activity Center, move it out of the reach of young children, and return it to a Toys R” Us store for a refund or store credit. Toys R Us can be reached, toll-free, at 1.800.869.7787 between 9:00 a.m. and 11:00 p.m., Eastern Time, Monday through Saturday and between 11:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m. Sunday, or at the firm’s website at www.toysrus.com/safety.
This is not the first time Toys R Us has recalled an Imaginarium product. Several years ago, we wrote that Toys R Us recalled 27,000 Imaginarium Wooden Coloring Case art kits, also made in China, because both the packaging that holds the kits, as well as some of the paint, contained dangerous amounts of lead.
