Wing Enterprises Inc., of Springville, Utah, has recalled about 20,000 Stepladder/Stepstool Combination Units, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) just announced.
The recalled product is the Switch-It Type1A Stepladder/Stepstools rated at 300 pounds and sold exclusively at The Home Depot. The Switch-It, an aluminum ladder, can be extended from a two-foot stepstool to a six-foot stepladder. Flared C-channel outer rails with orange rocker-type locks fit over inner rails. When extended, the inner rails can separate from the outer rails, causing the user to fall.
Wing Enterprises has received nine reports of the ladder becoming unstable, causing injuries ranging from scrapes and contusions to a fractured collarbone.
The words “Switch-it by Little Giant” appear on the front of the top platform. The recalled stepladder/stepstools have the following date stamps located immediately below the orange locks on the outer rails: 10622S, 10623S, 10624S, 10721S and 10722S. Part Number “15124” may be found on the black and orange label attached to the back of the outer rails.
The Switch-It stepstool/stepladders were sold at The Home Depot and Homedepot.com from August 2012 to October 2012, and were priced at about $88.
Customers should immediately stop using the recalled stepstool/stepladders and contact Wing Enterprises for a free replacement of the front outer section. Wing Enterprises Inc. may be reached, toll-free. at 855.595.3378, from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Mountain Time (MT), Monday through Friday, or online at www.littlegiantladders.com/switch-it-recall.
