A Wolcott man has filed a sex abuse lawsuit against the Rev. Stephen Foley, a former state police and fire chaplain.
The lawsuit filed Tuesday in Superior Court is the eighth filed in the past year against Rev. Stephen C. Foley.
The man, identified in court documents as Anthony Doe, alleges Foley molested him at a private home in Fairfield County in 1976.
At the time, Foley was a priest at Christ the King Church in Bloomfield. Both the church and the archdiocese also are named in Doe’s lawsuit.
Foley’s attorney, Walter Hampton, said the priest denies the charges.
“It really defies belief that so much could have gone on without someone knowing about it,” Hampton said Wednesday. “I have a hard time believing any of this.”
Foley, now 61, is still a priest, but he has been removed from all public service. He lives at St. Thomas Seminary in Bloomfield.
