Deficiency In Fatty Acids May Cause Autism. A pilot study suggests there may be a link between autism and a deficiency in ‘fatty acids’.
The study, which was done in Scotland, found that children with autism may metabolize ‘fatty acids’ quicker thereby leading to a deficiency.
‘Fatty acids’ are required for the optimal functioning of cells and organs like the brain and eyes.
They also help to fight off infections. The researchers do not know if taking fatty acid supplements or adding foods high in omega-3 ‘fatty acids’ like salmon, mackerel, herring, or sardines could help.
The team has been awarded a sizable grant to carry out additional research.
