The Rev. Donald Rieder said little as he was arraigned Monday on child molestation charges.
Rieder, 78, was booked and released on his promise to make future appearances and to have no contact with any minors.
Rieder acknowledged he had seen the complaint charging him with three counts of second-degree criminal sexual conduct.
Rieder is accused of improperly touching a female parishioner while he was a priest at St. John Cantius. The criminal complaint against him outlines abuse that prosecutors said happened from the late 1980s, when the girl was 5 or 6, until the 1990s, when the girl was 12.
Rieder’s next court appearance is scheduled for Jan. 27 in front of Stearns County District Court Judge Richard Ahles.
Rieder is also named in a civil lawsuit from a parishioner who accuses Rieder of abusing her while he was at St. John Cantius.
Rieder was a volunteer at St. Cloud Hospital until April, when the St. Cloud Diocese relieved him of his priestly duties after receiving allegations against him.
