GoGo Squeez Recall Applesauce Products. GoGo squeeZ, which produces fruit and vegetable snack foods for children in squeezable pouches, has announced the voluntary recall of specific pouches and cartons of applesauce that may be contaminated by mold.
The company published a letter to customers on its web site, explaining that the company “identified an issue in our recent production that led to the development of some common mold (like what can form on fruit) in a small number of pouches.”
Microbiologist Determined That Mold Poses No Health Risk
An “expert microbiologist” at an independent lab determined that the mold “poses no known health risk,” according to the company’s letter. But GoGo squeeZ said the mold is unpleasant to look at or taste, and “this is simply not the kind of experience we want you to have.” GoGo squeeZ said it has taken steps to “fully understand” and fix the problem and the letter said the company is confident that it is again meeting its “high quality standards.” The letter said it has been working closely with the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) on the recall and the remedy.
The letter to customers, signed by company founder and CEO Michel Larroche, said the company caught most of the potentially affected products before they reached stores, but a small number of products with mold may have reached store shelves. The recalled products have a Best Before Date between 6/30/16 and 7/26/16, and were produced in the U.S. Any pouches or cartons with a Best Before Date between 6/30/16 and 7/26/16 and a 5-character production code beginning with the letters US are included in the voluntary recall. The company web site has images of product labels to help consumers identify potentially affected products, and there is a link to Frequently Asked Questions about the recall.
Customers can use a link in the letter on the GoGo squeeZ web site to report recalled products and request a voucher for a refund. Customers may also contact the company by phone 1-844-275-5841.
The letter ended the letter with an apology to customers.
